LECTURE SCHEDULE FOR 2010 - 2011

As of March 31, five meetings have been held. A new fall schedule will be posted later in the year. For the one remaining meeting:

WEDGWOOD TREASURES AT THE MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS

Thomas Michie, a Senior Curator at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston will present an illustrated lecture for the Wedgwood Society of Boston, on May 15, 2:00 p.m. at Springhouse in Jamaica Plain. Michie will be showing a broad range of Wedgwood wares from the museumÕs permanent collection and will discuss the history of the collection from its earliest days on Copley Square. The lecture is free and the public is welcome.

Bostonians who formed notable Wedgwood collections include George Washington Wales and Mrs. Thomas O. Richardson, whose gifts and bequests remain the foundation of the MFAÕs collection today. The talk will also provide a glimpse of current and future plans for the display of English decorative arts at the MFA.

Thomas Michie joined the staff of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, in 2009 as the Senior Curator of Decorative Arts and Sculpture Art of Europe. Previously he was curator of Decorative Arts and Design at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (2005- 2009) and at the Rhode Island School of Design Museum in Providence (1984-2004). He is co-author of catalogs of decorative arts at LACMA, RISD, the Milwaukee Art Museum, and the U. S. Department of State. A graduate of Williams College, he holds an M. Phil. degree in history of art from Yale University. He is past president of the Decorative Arts Society, an honorary member of the Pottery and Porcelain Club of Providence, and currently he serves on the board of the American Ceramic Circle.

The Wedgwood Society of Boston is the nationÕs oldest Wedgwood Society, founded for connoisseurs and students of Wedgwood ceramics and related classical works of art. Speakers include local, national and international authorities. The Society holds six regular meetings, and publishes six issues of a Newsletter throughout the year.
